Santa Barbara Chiropractor: ChiropracticTreatment Can Ease The Pain Of Spinal Osteoarthritis (Spondylosis)
You’ve probably heard the old saying, “Growing old isn’t so bad when you consider the alternative.” But, if the aging process is causing you pain, you are painfully aware that aging is no joke! As a chiropractor in Santa Barbara, when it comes to musculoskeletal challenges, I see too many age-related breakdowns that likely wouldn’t have occurred if the primary cause had been treated earlier. Pain in the back, neck, hips, knees, and even the feet are frequently the result of undue stresses due to poor posture, improper gait, and repetitive overuse. If we only aware years ago how our aging body would feel now, eh? However, as they say, “hindsight is 20-20.”
As you can see from the list areas of pain above, there are quite a few musculoskeletal problems that can, and often do, evolve as we age, but back pain is one of the most prevalent. Age-related back pain is most often the result of a degenerative disorder known as Spondylosis (spine osteoarthritis).
Spinal osteoarthritis is caused by advanced wear and weight-bearing stress on the spine that eventually does harm to the discs, joints, and surrounding ligaments. The location and measure of the degenerative process of spondylosis is individual, varying from person to person. The areas likely to be affected are the cervical (neck), thoriacic (mid-back), or lumbar (low back). Spondylosis symptoms are individual as well, depending on the severity of degeneration, and can run a spectrum from negligible pain and numbness to extensive sensory loss and muscular atrophy.
Calcium is deposited in the tissues around the vertebrae as the result of repetitive stresses that abnormally affect the cartilage surrounding the joints These calcific deposits, known as bone spurs, can constrict adjacent nerves, blood vessels and soft tissue. This particular of compression is at the root of Spondylosis.
Regular chiropractic treatment and overall chiropractic management is beneficial in significantly slowing age-related degeneration of the spine whether or not you are suffering from spondylosis. Even though “you can’t un-ring a bell” or “turn back the hands of time,” but it’s never too late to give your spine the consideration it deserves. Chiropractors are experts when it comes to treatment of the spine. See your Santa Barbara Chiropractor today, for the health of your spine.
If You’re Pregnant, You Have Alternatives When It Comes to Back Pain Relief
For many pregnant women, back pain seems to be unavoidable, especially the “more pregnant” a woman becomes! Chiropractic adjustments are safe and highly beneficial in relieving back pain due to pregnancy, and they are also helpful in relieving other pregnancy “complaints” such as heartburn, nausea, and swelling. “As a woman and a chiropractor, I understand the many subtle, and not so subtle, changes that a woman’s body experiences during pregnancy,” said Melody Shubert, D.C., of Shubert Natural Health and Chiropractic in Wichita, Kansas. And, if needed, a well-trained chiropractor can also help with a breached baby. This is done by using the Webster Technique, a low force technique to manipulate the uterus and get the baby into the proper position for delivery. (A simple Google search on the Webster Technique can give you much more information.) Check with your local chiropractor for more information on how chiropractic adjustments can help during pregnancy.
Osteopathic manipulation is another alternative for back pain relief due to pregnancy. “Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) is a viable option for improving function related to the low back and reducing back pain in the third trimester of pregnancy because its does not appear to have any negative side effects,” said John C. Licciardone, D.O., M.S., M.B.A., the lead author of a study on OMT in the third trimester of pregnancy that was recently published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Results from this study showed that osteopathic manipulative treatment slows or halts the deterioration of back-specific function in the third trimester of pregnancy. I have had two discectomies, just had a epidural steriod injection.I am experiencing a increase in pain.On a scale of 1-10,I am a 9.If these needles work, how long will this last? After awhile a person gets tired of pain every single day and nothing relieves it.Does back pain ever go away?A person can't even function at everyday things the pain is so intense. Please anyone, answer this question.
I was bed ridden for three years with ruptured disks in my lumbar region. I had a lumbardiskotomy 15 years ago and haven't had much pain since then. But I do remember those years. I know what you are going through. You need to find a pain management support group through your local Doctor or Hospital. I wanted to die and thought of suicide many times when the pain over came me. Constant intense pain causes depression and it is very bad. So please go find some one to support you mentally. Taking action will make you feel better. Good Luck.
